The Distinguished Industry Partner Award is presented a prominent colleague from the bariatric industry for providing a steadfast commitment to the goals and vision of the ASMBS, excellence in service and value to ASMBS members, their patients, and the field of bariatric surgery.

The ASMBS Foundation Board of Directors will evaluate the award submissions and identify an award recipient. The Board of Director’s decision is final. The Board of Directors will not consider incomplete nominations. No information about the outcome of Board of Director’s decisions can be provided prior to the official announcement of the award recipients. Application-specific feedback will not be provided.

Bret leads Bariatric Advantage, the leader in targeted nutrition for metabolic/bariatric surgery patients. He has a passion to mitigate the complications associated with post-operative deficiencies and supports a chronic disease philosophy to the treatment of obesity. While at Bariatric Advantage Bret developed a world-class sales, marketing, and clinical support team. Together they built a robust science-based, patient-focused product portfolio that serve bariatric surgeons and their patients. They also deploy extensive business to business and business to patient solutions that help drive increased utilization and adherence. Bret’s team fosters unique professional and patient education solutions, and their e-commerce expertise offer unique insights and novel solutions that serve the healthcare professional and their patient.
Bret graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he started as a sophomore with the Army Football Team. Beat Navy. Following graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Army. He is a graduate from U.S. Army Airborne School, and a Merril’s Marauders honor graduate from the U.S. Army Ranger School. He served in the United States Army for five years in various leadership positions in both the United States and Europe.
Following his military service, Bret commenced his healthcare career with a Johnson & Johnson Company, Ethicon Endo-Surgery. From 1997 to 2002 he sold surgical devices to advanced laparoscopic surgeons, and in 1999 he observed his first bariatric procedure. After this role, he joined a novel medical device start-up, Bioenterics and specifically supported bariatric surgery programs. In 2005 Bret helped co-found an outpatient metabolic surgery treatment program, and gained the first outpatient designation as a Center of Excellence. In 2008, he joined Bariatric Advantage.
Bret has four children and has been married for 16 years to one, lucky lady. He has coached numerous youth sports teams for over 10 years. He is passionate about his faith, obesity treatment, and the life skills learned in team sports.
Bret serves as the chair on the corporate council for the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, is a director for the Obesity Treatment Foundation, is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association Corporate Council, and a board member of the North Texas Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance.
